So… What Exactly Is the Ultimate St. Augustine Travel Guide?
I’ll be honest—this guide isn’t something I’d ever consider “finished.” It’s not some polished, final product carved in stone. Why? Because I’m not interested in recommending places I wouldn’t go myself or sending you somewhere I can’t genuinely vouch for. What you’ll find in this guide are spots I love, places trusted friends love, and experiences I can wholeheartedly suggest. If my close friends trust me to take them out—whether they’ve got young kids or are chasing a sunset cocktail—you can bet their input made it in here too.
Why This Guide Exists
My wife and I have called St. Augustine home for over 11 years now, after spending more than 15 years visiting six or more times a year.
As such, being a regular visitor, my wife and I would both get a lot of questions. I mean lot of questions about what to do during their visit to St. Augustine.
- Where should we eat? Check out our extensive Restaurant Guide
- What’s the best beach for a quiet afternoon?
- Got a favorite hidden gem?
And when friends from outside the country visit, they want to understand more than just where to go—they want to understand the culture.
That’s when it hit me: instead of trying to answer the same questions over and over, why not write it all down? Share my thoughts and experiences in one place—tailored to where you’re coming from and what you’re looking for.
A Guide Built on Real-Life Experience
This guide isn’t just about the “top 10” tourist traps or regurgitated reviews. It’s about helping you prepare at your own pace, get genuine recommendations, and ultimately have a better experience here in the oldest city in the U.S. My intent is to assist you to help you plan your trip to St. Augustine!
St. Augustine has a way of being underestimated—don’t make that mistake. There’s a staggering number of things to do, places to explore, bites to savor, and shops to discover. And I’m here to help you tap into the best of it.
Food Is Our Love Language
If this guide has a beating heart, it’s food. We eat out—a lot. Not just out of habit but out of curiosity. Some spots are longtime favorites; others come from friends or family we trust to steer us right.
And yes, we test the recommendations before they ever make it in here. So while I’ll share my personal favorites, this guide is not about my tastes alone—it’s a collective effort.
That said, don’t be afraid to go rogue. If you wander into a hole-in-the-wall eatery or stumble across a beach shack with killer views—tell me about it. Some of the best discoveries are the ones you make on your own. I’m not here to dictate how you plan your trip; I just want to make sure you don’t leave hungry or disappointed.
Locals, Travelers, and Everyone In Between
Whether you live here full-time or you’re visiting for a long weekend, this guide is for you. Locals might find fresh gems they’ve overlooked. Visitors will get the inside scoop beyond what you’ll find in a brochure. And if you’re traveling internationally, I’ve added a few cultural tips and extras to make your experience smoother and more welcoming.
So yeah, there’s a lot here. Hundreds of curated suggestions, hidden favorites, and go-to spots that we’ve vetted. But this is just the beginning. My hope? That this guide becomes a starting point for your own unforgettable stories—and that you’ll share them, too.
